Georgian Opposition Calls for Prime Minister's Impeachment
The opposition party 'Lelo for Georgia' has announced its intention to initiate impeachment proceedings against Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili. This was stated by party council member Levan Samushia during a press briefing.
The dissatisfaction stems from allegations that Garibashvili used a government plane for personal purposes. A photograph circulating on social media purportedly showed Garibashvili in the United States. Later, the Georgian government's Strategic Communications Department confirmed this, noting that the Prime Minister traveled to the U.S. with his son, who has been accepted to the University of Pennsylvania. The department highlighted that he used a charter flight for his private visit to the U.S.
The information regarding the charter flight has sparked a stir within Georgian society, with many questioning how the head of the government can afford to rent a private jet on his salary.
It is also worth mentioning that previously in Georgia, the opposition launched an initiative demanding the resignation of President Salome Zurabishvili.
