VIDEO: Nearly 300 People Killed in Earthquake in Morocco
A 6.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Morocco has resulted in the deaths of nearly 300 people and left 153 injured, according to RBC. The earthquake was recorded on September 9 at 02:11 local time in Yerevan.
This is the first major earthquake in the country in nearly 20 years. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 77 km southwest of Marrakesh at a depth of 10 km, an area home to 839,000 residents.
Sky News Arabia reports that the tremors lasted for several minutes, prompting residents to flee to the streets. Al Jazeera has reported that parts of the city's historic area, which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, have been partially destroyed.
