Albert Azaryan's Remains to Be Interred at Komitas Pantheon
Olympic triple champion, world and European champion Albert Azaryan's memorial service will take place at the Alexander Spendiaryan National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet on September 8 at 17:00, as announced by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia.
The final farewell will be held on September 9 from 11:00 to 13:00 at the St. John the Baptist Church in Kond, and from 13:00 to 13:30 at the Albert Azaryan Youth Sports School (Address: Moscowian 3). Albert Azaryan's remains will be interred at the Komitas Pantheon, with the funeral scheduled for 14:00.
Albert Azaryan was born on February 11, 1929, in Gandzak to a family of craftsmen. In 1939, the family moved to Vanadzor, and in 1947, to Yerevan. He was declared a distinguished master of sports of the USSR in 1954, a distinguished coach of the Armenian SSR, and a distinguished figure in physical culture and sports of the Armenian SSR in 1967.
He participated in competitions in 49 countries around the world, winning 45 gold, 42 silver, and 10 bronze medals. He is a triple Olympic champion, a four-time world champion, and a double European champion. He won the title of champion 11 times at the USSR championships.
