Ministry of Education and Science on Textbooks

The Ministry of Education and Science has addressed a circular letter to the Yerevan Municipality and the regional administrations of the Republic of Armenia, proposing that educational institutions under their jurisdiction provide students with electronic copies of the textbooks for the 2nd, 5th, and 7th grades or organize education in an electronic format.

Starting from the 2023/24 academic year, a new curriculum for general education is being implemented in these grades, which entails changes to textbooks and educational materials. The printing of new textbooks is currently underway, and they will be delivered to schools in phases throughout September.

A similar letter has also been sent to the directors of general education institutions operating under the Ministry of Education and Science as well as private schools. Schools have been instructed to refrain from directing parents to purchase textbooks or to make copies of their electronic versions. Schools are responsible for distributing printed pages of the relevant themes from the electronic versions of the textbooks at their own expense.

In light of recent complaints and concerns received from citizens, we inform you that the issue of textbooks was discussed during August consultations with the participation of directors from all regions of Armenia, the Yerevan Municipality, institutions under the Ministry of Education and Science, and private schools. Schools have been informed about the transitional phase issues and the necessary steps to organize the educational process.

At the same time, we inform that citizens can contact the Ministry of Education and Science's hotline at 010-599-600 for any questions they have regarding textbooks and the organization of the educational process.

We remind you that the process of providing textbooks is carried out in accordance with established procedures, under which textbooks for elementary classes are provided to students free of charge from state funds, while textbooks for other grades are provided with investment funds.
