Samvel Babayan Positions Himself as President of Artsakh

The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that former commander of the Artsakh Defense Army, Samvel Babayan, continues to search for positions in Artsakh. As soon as a position becomes vacant, he decides to nominate himself and imagines himself in that role.

"Zhoghovurd" wrote that on August 28, there was a rather heated and lengthy discussion in the Artsakh National Assembly, led by President Arayik Harutyunyan, with the participation of former presidents of Artsakh Bako Sahakyan, Arkadi Ghukasyan, the leader of the "United Homeland" party, Samvel Babayan, and Artsakh MPs. Among various security and humanitarian issues, the question of Arayik Harutyunyan has also been discussed, which has recently become a top political topic in Artsakh.

Samvel Babayan seems to be the most encouraged by the discussions regarding Harutyunyan's resignation. Although these are merely speculations at this point and nothing is definitive, Babayan has become active again, holding meetings with political and public circles, positioning himself as a potential president of Artsakh.

According to our sources, he was quite active and made enthusiastic statements during the discussion involving presidents and MPs. Contrary to his desires, Babayan is not considered a candidate for president in Artsakh, as he is viewed as an unacceptable figure by broad public and political circles due to his "Nikol" statements.

What will happen in the future remains to be seen. For now, discussions about Arayik Harutyunyan’s resignation remain at the speculation level, with nothing concrete, as his resignation poses serious risks. Harutyunyan secures the sovereignty of Artsakh, and this simple truth is not recognized by many in Armenia and Artsakh.
