VIDEO: Landslide Destroys French Savoie Highway

A large-scale landslide occurred in the city of Saint-André, France, this Sunday, August 27. The incident was captured by a witness.

Footage reveals how part of the mountain collapses onto the highway and railway, with vehicles and trucks moving along the roadway. Fortunately, there were no casualties from the landslide.

The landslide took place on the RD1006 highway in Saint-André, as reported by La Maurienne on its Facebook page (owned by Metan, which is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia). According to information from the Savoie prefecture, 'several rocks, approximately 700 m³ in volume, have fallen into the protective screen that was installed as a precautionary measure by the departmental council's road services, particularly in this protected area.'

Several roads are closed indefinitely, including a section of the A43 highway between exits 29 and 30 in both directions (Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne and Le Fresnay). The Fréjus road tunnel is also closed for vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tons in both the France-Italy and Italy-France directions. Rail communication between France and Italy has been suspended indefinitely in the Modane area.
