Elections to Be Held in Kyiv in 2024 to Maintain Zelensky's Popularity, Says El Pais

The Ukrainian authorities are considering holding presidential elections in 2024 to maintain the popularity of the current president, Volodymyr Zelensky. This was reported by the El Pais newspaper, citing its sources.

The publication notes that Zelensky's supporters are in favor of holding both parliamentary and presidential elections in the spring of 2024. According to sources from El Pais, the conflict is approaching an end, making it necessary to "legitimize the president and his new government."

It is noted that there is an acknowledgment in Ukraine of the need for negotiations with Russia; however, before these talks take place, Zelensky's rating may decline due to corruption scandals in the country. At the same time, the authors of the article state that at this moment, "no one in Ukraine is as popular as Zelensky."

Just a day ago, Zelensky himself mentioned that he does not cling to power and would like to hold elections; however, holding elections in Ukraine during martial law is prohibited, so Parliament will need to make appropriate changes to the law, and the West will need to allocate additional funds for this purpose.
