Azerbaijan Sends Protest Note to the Russian Foreign Ministry

The Azerbaijani embassy in Russia has sent a protest note to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Azerbaijani media reports. According to the diplomatic representative, this decision from Baku stems from the event held on August 7 in Yekaterinburg, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the formation of the Talysh-Mughan Republic. Baku has labeled this event a provocative step.

Diplomats consider the presence of Igor Volodin, the president of the Yekaterinburg City Duma, unacceptable. His participation is seen as promoting separatism, which contradicts the spirit of cooperative interaction between Azerbaijan and Russia, and also harms bilateral cooperation, the report states.

The Talysh-Mughan Autonomous Republic was established in June 1993 in the territory of seven districts in southern Azerbaijan. By the end of August 1993, the leaders of the republic were arrested. A total of 31 people were arrested and convicted in connection with the TMAR case.
