Do Not Burn Residues: Ministry of Environment Issues Warning

The Ministry of Environment has issued a warning against burning agricultural residues. "Often, people, unaware of the negative consequences, burn agricultural residues and plant materials in preparation for or after agricultural activities, thus contributing to the destruction of crucial components of the environment.

Fires can destroy habitats, including forests, specific ecosystems, grasslands, and wetland areas. This leads to the loss of important shelters and breeding grounds for various plant and animal species. Many species, particularly worms, insects, reptiles, small mammals, rodents, and small birds, do not have the means to protect themselves or escape from fires. They, along with their nests, eggs, young, etc., may perish due to fire or extreme heat, which can lead to species extinction or a decline in their populations.

Fires can disrupt the delicate balance of ecosystems and hinder ecological processes, such as nutrient cycling, food chain links, and the distribution of plant seeds. This disruption can affect the ability of species and ecosystems to recover. Certain fire-sensitive species may disappear, while species that can withstand fire may become dominant. This can lead to changes in species composition, a disruption of delicate interconnections, and a loss of biodiversity.

In some ecosystems, a long time is required for recovery from a fire, especially if the frequency and intensity of fires are greater than the ecosystems' ability to regenerate. This prolonged recovery period can endanger various plant and animal species and their population replenishment."
