Denmark May Ban Burning of the Bible, Quran, and Other Holy Books

Denmark has decided to criminalize the public burning or desecration of holy books, including the Quran and the Bible. According to the country's Ministry of Justice, such actions can now be punishable by up to two years in prison.

The Swedish Foreign Minister has also announced that Stockholm currently cannot take such a step but may reconsider the 'Public Order Act' and become stricter regarding permission for citizens to hold demonstrations.

Earlier, Swedish authorities stated that they could not infringe on citizens' freedoms and limit their right to hold protests. Previously, demonstrations involving the burning of the Quran have sparked protests in several Muslim-majority countries. Notably, in Copenhagen alone, the Quran has been burned three times in the past two months.
