The Investigation and Operational Intelligence Department of the Armenian State Revenue Committee received information from the National Security Service's Yerevan city administration regarding illegal currency exchange activities conducted by a citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran without state registration and licenses in one of the apartments in Yerevan.
To clarify the circumstances surrounding the illegal entrepreneurial activities, employees of the State Revenue Committee's Investigation and Operational Intelligence Department, together with employees of the National Security Service's Yerevan city administration, developed and implemented comprehensive operational and investigative measures.
Undercover operations included a "controlled purchase," during which an Iranian citizen engaged in currency exchange without a license was provided with 800,000 AMD to buy Iranian rials, with the intention of transferring to an Iranian bank card.
The measures revealed that an Iranian citizen, identified as S.A., was conducting the exchange of dollars, Armenian drams, and Iranian rials in an apartment located at 4/3 Amiryan Street in Yerevan, as well as making money transfers from Armenia to the Islamic Republic of Iran without state registration and registration in the tax authority.
Based on the factual data obtained from the operations, a report was prepared regarding the violation of the requirements of Articles 407, Parts 1 and 3 of the Armenian Tax Code by the Iranian citizen and sent to the legal department of the State Revenue Committee to discuss the issue of administrative liability.
Simultaneously, a report was submitted to the Investigative Committee of Armenia regarding economic crimes and smuggling to discuss initiating a criminal case.
The State Revenue Committee's Investigation and Operational Intelligence Department urges individuals to refrain from carrying out activities without state registration and the appropriate licenses.
Note: A suspect or accused individual is considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedures established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia with a legally binding court verdict.
