Unacceptable: House Arrest Selected as a Restriction for Sergey Smbatyan, Lawyer
The Court of Appeal has partially overturned the decision of the first instance court regarding the detention of Maestro Sergey Smbatyan, changing the selected measure to house arrest, which is unacceptable. This was announced by Smbatyan’s lawyer, Yervand Varosyan, on his Facebook page.
“We will file a cassation appeal against the decision made; the application of any restrictive measure against Sergey Smbatyan is illegal and unfounded,” reads the post.
It should be recalled that on July 30, it was revealed that former ambassador Armen Smbatyan and his son, conductor Sergey Smbatyan, were detained. Armen Smbatyan is charged under point 1 of part 3 of Article 38-178 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia (organizing large-scale fraud), while Sergey Smbatyan and businessman A.P. are charged under point 1 of part 3 of Article 178 (large-scale fraud).
