Defense Ministry Official Caused About 2 Million Drams in Damage to the State Through Fraud
The investigation carried out by the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia has established that T.G., serving as the head of the communal services of the N military unit of the Ministry of Defense, used his official influence to commit large-scale fraud, embezzling approximately 2 million AMD from the state budget through deception.
Specifically, the investigation revealed that in November 2021, T.G. informed one of his acquaintances that there were two vacancies for seasonal workers in the military unit's boiler room, and if that person had reliable candidates, he was willing to hire them. T.G. also indicated that these individuals would not actually be attending work and would keep four months of their salaries each year for themselves, while handing over the remaining eight months' salaries to him.
The acquaintance of T.G. offered the job under these terms to his contacts, who agreed, subsequently transferring the salary funds to T.G., who fraudulently embezzled them, causing the state a property damage of more than 1,951,000 AMD.
T.G., the pressured official of the Ministry of Defense, has been charged under parts 2 and 3 of Article 255 of the Armenian Criminal Code. He fully accepted the charges against him and provided confessional testimony. The damage caused to the state has been fully recovered during the investigation.
The pre-investigation stage of the criminal proceedings has concluded, and the materials of the case have been submitted to the supervising prosecutor with a request for approval and forwarding to the court.
