No Penny Should Be Given to Azerbaijan in General: Adam Schiff

A discussion at the UN Security Council regarding the blockade of Artsakh yielded no results. This was stated by Adam Schiff, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, in a video message published on his Twitter page, noting that the U.S. administration should take more decisive action.

“There is a severe humanitarian crisis in Artsakh. The 120,000 residents of Artsakh are deprived of food, medicine, and other essentials. As a result, people are dying,” the Congressman said.

He reminded that Armenians living in Artsakh are currently still under blockade as Azerbaijan has closed the Lachin corridor, the vital road connecting Artsakh to Armenia. “The response must be targeted and it must be urgent,” he asserted in the video.

Schiff reported that he had a phone conversation with the U.S. representative to the UN and discussed the Security Council meeting. “Unfortunately, nothing came of it. A resolution is needed that demands an end to this violation of international law, ensuring free access to food and medicine, as well as the free movement of people,” Adam Schiff stated.

According to the Congressman, U.S. President Joe Biden and the U.S. administration need to do much more than they are currently doing, primarily halting military aid to Azerbaijan. “In general, no penny should be given to Azerbaijan, especially when this disaster continues. The administration must speak up and act; otherwise, people will continue to die. I am deeply concerned about the threat of a new genocide of Armenians,” the Congressman declared.

In conclusion, he reminded that Azerbaijan’s unleashed war against Armenia resulted in the deaths of thousands and that it continues to unlawfully hold prisoners of war, violating international law. According to Adam Schiff, these are extremely serious issues, but currently, the priority must be the unblocking of the Lachin corridor.
