Azerbaijani Authorities Present Armenian Towns and Villages as Azerbaijan with False Signage
The director of the Center for Law and Justice "Tatoyan" Foundation and former Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, writes on Facebook:
Under the guise of humanitarianism, the Azerbaijani authorities are presenting the entire territory of Armenia as Azerbaijan, by creating false lists.
Under the direct guidance of the Azerbaijani government, special lists of coordinators for so-called "returnees to Western Azerbaijan" have been compiled, targeting Armenia in the framework of the completely fabricated concept of "Western Azerbaijan." On these lists, the names of Armenian cities and villages are presented with Azerbaijani false names.
This is essentially a military-political project of the Azerbaijani government but is presented in a humanitarian light in order to conceal its territorial ambitions and threats directed at the Republic of Armenia. Moreover, it concerns not just one or two settlements but the entire territory of Armenia, which they claim to be 29,800 square kilometers.
It is particularly noteworthy that before the 44-day war in 2020, the term "Western Azerbaijan" was scarcely used in Azerbaijan. This new term has been developed and circulated especially since 2022.
Additionally, officials in Azerbaijan are already talking about some initial phase of return and approaching 300,000 people. All of this should be viewed as part of the Azerbaijani authorities' anti-Armenian fascist policy, which has nothing to do with peace and is being implemented amid ongoing Azerbaijani hostility.
