Old Metro Trains to Be Replaced with New Ones
The trains currently in operation in Yerevan's metro system, produced in 1976, will soon be replaced with new ones. The Yerevan Metro is set to acquire 45 new trains. Babken Sedrakyan, the director of the metro, has announced that a competition will be announced shortly for this purpose. 'The wagons we have in operation were made in 1976.'
Deputy Mayor Tigran Avinyan also noted that despite some cosmetic repairs, the metro trains are old and in need of replacement. Avinyan mentioned that this issue will also be discussed with the government.
Additionally, Yerevan Metro reports that operations are running smoothly. In the past week, the number of passengers transported reached 414,040. A total of 2,785 trains have been taken out of service, and 59 wooden bridges have been replaced.
