Negotiations Between Moscow and Kyiv on Grain Corridor May Take Place in Istanbul

Turkey is conducting negotiations with the UN to restore the export of Ukrainian grain via the Black Sea, reports Turkish Sabah.

The publication states that Ankara is discussing options with UN representatives to revive the grain deal that was in effect from August 1, 2022, until July 17, 2023. One of the options being considered is holding negotiations in Istanbul between Russia and Ukraine.

According to Sabah, Turkey believes that alternative routes for exporting Ukrainian grain are less secure and effective. Furthermore, their use could lead to increased tensions in the region.

Earlier, Turkish officials proposed extending the grain deal for at least one year instead of just a few months, which could help avoid further increases in grain prices, the paper notes.

Russia had suspended its participation in agreements related to the grain deal on July 17, 2023.
