Civil Aviation Committee on Yerevan-Kapan-Yerevan Route

Since the Soviet era, Yak-40 aircraft have been operating more than 10 flights daily to Kapan airport. This was reported by the Civil Aviation Committee.

“At that time, the flight approaches and landings, as well as the departure schemes, partially traversed the airspace of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic. However, after the reopening of Kapan's 'Syunik' airport in 2020, new modern air schemes were introduced, according to which approaches, departures, and landings are conducted exclusively within the airspace of Armenia.

According to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, every sovereign state independently manages its airspace, and flights conducted within a state’s territory are not coordinated with neighboring countries. Information about flights that take place near the borders of two countries is provided to the neighboring state for awareness, which the aviation authorities of the Republic of Armenia have been doing so far.

The Republic of Armenia operates in accordance with the principle of sovereignty and international laws in the field of civil aviation, to which each state that is a member of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is obliged to adhere strictly.

It should also be noted that on August 19 of this year, in connection with the day of the city of Kapan, NovAir airline will operate passenger flights on the Yerevan-Kapan-Yerevan route using an L-410 type civil aircraft.
