Migrants in Russia Risk Losing Citizenship for Refusing Military Service

Migrants in Russia may face the loss of their acquired citizenship if they refuse to register for military service and serve in the armed forces. This statement was made by Kirill Kabanov, a member of the Russian President's Human Rights Council, who described this practice as 'just.' His remarks were quoted by RIA Novosti.

According to Kabanov, by avoiding military service, immigrants are neglecting the obligations they assumed when obtaining Russian citizenship.

He reminded that Russia already has a law allowing the revocation of acquired citizenship due to actions that discredit the armed forces or pose a threat to national security.

Earlier, it was reported that 100 migrants were taken to military enlistment offices in Saint Petersburg. All of them held Russian passports but were not officially registered.
