VIDEO: Massive Protest in Niger Demands Withdrawal of French Troops
People in the capital of Niger, Niamey, organized a massive protest near a French military base. This information was reported by TASS.
The demonstrators accused Paris of interfering in the internal affairs of the African state. Protesters indicated that they support the National Council for the Salvation of the Homeland, which is the governing body created by the rebels who overthrew the government.
Participants of the rally also expressed opposition to the possible military intervention by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Additionally, the protesters publicly voiced their negative stance towards ECOWAS, which declared its willingness to conduct military intervention in Niger to restore President Mohamed Bazoum's authority, who was ousted by the military.
According to media reports, there are currently at least 1,500 French soldiers stationed in Niger.
