Second Suicide Incident in One Day at the Same Military Unit: Granik Returned from Leave Days Ago

Granik Vardan Khunkoyan, who died from a gunshot wound the day before, was from the village of Benjamin in the Shirak region. He was conscripted in January and was serving in Ararat. This was stated in a conversation with NEWS.am by Artak Antonyan, the head of the Benjamin administrative district, who noted that according to the official version, Granik had committed suicide, but details were still unclear.

“Granik was serving in Ararat. To be honest, I had heard that there was another incident yesterday, but I cannot say what happened, I do not have the details. Granik had returned from leave a few days ago; I saw him, we talked, and he was satisfied with his service. They are a special family; Granik has two younger brothers; his parents are also engaged in agricultural work. Granik was a gifted, hardworking child; it’s incredible, he had spoken with his father just yesterday morning, saying everything was fine,” he said.

The village head expressed disbelief in the suicide version, as he knew Granik Khunkoyan personally and stated that he had no bad habits. “I knew him; that boy was smart, hardworking, and had no bad habits. What could have been the reason for him to commit suicide? I just can’t understand. It’s a shame that a soldier is lost in peaceful circumstances,” he added.

Earlier, it was reported that on August 11, a soldier of the RA Ministry of Defense’s N military unit, Granik Vardan Khunkoyan, received a fatal gunshot wound under still unclear circumstances. Previously, it was reported that another soldier, Zhoray Karapetyan, died from a gunshot wound on August 9 under circumstances that have yet to be clarified. It is known that both incidents occurred in the same military unit.
