Video: "Do you have an idea about your work?" Journalists question Deputy Minister of Defense Hrachya Sahakyan
According to the legislation of the Republic of Armenia, the Minister of Defense and the deputy ministers are not required to be military personnel. This was stated by the newly appointed Deputy Minister of Defense, former Mayor of Yerevan Hrachya Sahakyan, during a press briefing with journalists after the government meeting.
“The military are doing their job, and we are doing ours. We have armed forces, we have a chief of staff, and the military are engaged in the functions they perform. Together, each of us contributes to our army with our experience,” said Sahakyan.
As for the specific area he will be coordinating in the Ministry of Defense, the deputy minister preferred not to disclose that information for now. He emphasized that the work is not entirely foreign to him, as it requires management skills.
When asked about the problems and processes he is currently dealing with, he also refrained from mentioning specifics, stressing that one should not speak about matters that could contain valuable information for our adversary.
“We need to enhance our combat readiness and the efficiency of our processes so that we can achieve our goals,” stated the Deputy Minister of Defense.
It should be noted that Hrachya Sahakyan was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Defense on August 3. Prior to that, he served as an advisor to the Prime Minister and had previously been the Mayor of Yerevan.
