Video: Heavy Smell, Visible Fire from Afar - Citizens Report
Auroranews continues to receive footage from the Nubarashen landfill area in Yerevan. Citizens who contacted us report that in addition to the fire, there is also a foul smell in the area, and they have heard noises. According to them, it is likely that burning plastic items have exploded.
Hayk Kostanyan, spokesperson for the Yerevan Municipality, stated in an interview with Auroranews that the fire broke out yesterday, and firefighting efforts have been underway. ‘The fire ignited around 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM yesterday, and firefighting measures have been implemented from that time onward. Currently, land work is being carried out. Starting from yesterday and for the next few days, there will be monitoring in the landfill area by municipal employees and the Ministry of Emergency Situations’ rescue workers to prevent issues due to anomalous heat, and to ensure a quick response in case of any incidents,’ he noted.
Kostanyan clarified that the white smoke observed in the morning was from smoldering hotspots.
We remind our readers that Auroranews has reported on what the situation was like on-site in the morning.
