Former Goalkeeper Veniamin Mandrikin Passes Away at 41
Former goalkeeper Veniamin Mandrikin, who played for Moscow's CSKA and the Russian national team, has passed away at the age of 41. This was reported by the press service of the Moscow club.
It has been noted that the goalkeeper died from a heart attack. Mandrikin had been bedridden since a car accident in November 2010, which resulted in a spinal injury.
Mandrikin began his professional career with Vladikavkaz's Alania. He was a player for CSKA from 2001 to 2010, during which time he became a three-time champion of Russia, a two-time runner-up, a bronze medalist, and a four-time cup winner, as well as a three-time Supercup winner and a UEFA Cup winner.
Mandrikin also played on loan for Rostov, Tom, Spartak Nalchik, and Dynamo Bryansk. He made two appearances for the Russian national team.
