VIDEO: The Number of Fatalities from Landslide in Georgia Increases
Yesterday, a landslide occurred in the Oni municipality of Georgia, near the Shovi resort area, close to the "Sansent Shovi" hotel. According to the latest official reports, six people have died as a result of the natural disaster. Rescuers discovered two of the deceased yesterday.
The search and rescue operation has been ongoing for the second day in Oni municipality, involving around 400 firefighters and rescue workers, as well as personnel from various divisions of Georgia's Ministry of Internal Affairs. Starting from 6:00 AM today, two helicopters from the border police have been engaged in the rescue efforts.
As reported by Irakli Karseladze, Georgia's Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, it is currently impossible to establish contact with 35 people in the disaster area.
