Aghdam Holds No Communication with Family of Vagif Khachatryan Abducted by Azerbaijan, Says Daughter
The 68-year-old Vagif Khachatryan, who was abducted by Azerbaijan on July 29 while being transferred from Artsakh to Armenia for medical treatment under the escort of the International Committee of the Red Cross, has not established contact with any family members to this day.
This information was provided by Khachatryan's daughter, Tsvetana Khachatryan, in a conversation with an Artsakhpress correspondent. “Every day, we go several times to the Red Cross office in Stepanakert, while my sister is trying to find out information in Yerevan. They tell us they have no information. They report that they are negotiating for my father to be allowed a visit, but so far it has been fruitless,” explained Tsvetana Khachatryan.
According to her, the Red Cross representative only called at midnight on July 29 to inform them that Vagif Khachatryan was in a hospital in Baku, where he is connected to a ventilator. She noted that her father has health issues and again urged international organizations to respond to their requests and return her father to his homeland as soon as possible to save his life.
Additionally, the office of Azerbaijan's human rights commissioner issued a statement yesterday indicating that Sabina Aliyeva personally met with Vagif Khachatryan. According to the statement, Khachatryan allegedly “expressed gratitude to the Azerbaijani state for the treatment, conditions of detention, and the possibility of contacting his family.” However, the family has not been in contact with Khachatryan at all, and even the Red Cross has been unable to visit him since July 29.
