VIDEO. "Why wasn't there such aggression towards the abductors of Vagif?" says rally participant
A group of young people and citizens from Artsakh have blocked the entrances and exits of the Armenian office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) since the early morning. They are preventing employees from entering the building.
The protest is led by Vera Khachatryan, the daughter of Vagif Khachatryan, who was abducted by Azerbaijanis. During the action, a police officer approached Vera and said, "Let me inform you, this is not beautiful." A participant responded, "Why weren’t there such people near the Hakari Bridge to exert pressure? Why wasn’t there such aggression towards Vagif's abductors?"
After negotiations with police officers, the young people from Artsakh allowed the Red Cross staff to enter the building. They agreed that upon entering, they must meet with Vagif Khachatryan’s daughter, Vera. She was invited to speak with the Red Cross employees.
It should be noted that Vera Khachatryan had requested the Red Cross to ensure a video call connection with her father, which has not been fulfilled.
Recall that Vagif Khachatryan from Artsakh was abducted on July 29 in the Lachin corridor and taken to Baku while attempting to travel to Armenia for treatment, accompanied by the ICRC.
The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan has announced that "he was charged" back in 2013, a decision was made to arrest him, and that the same year "an international warrant was issued". The detainee from Artsakh is accused by Baku of "genocide and the displacement of Azerbaijanis". Protests demanding the release of Vagif Khachatryan have been ongoing in Armenia for several days.
