The authorities of Georgia have imposed restrictions on the export and re-export of vehicles manufactured in the United States. The ban has been in effect since August 1. This information was reported to TASS by the revenue service of the Ministry of Finance.
The agency added that similar measures will also be applied to vehicles imported from Europe. The restrictions will come into force on September 26. This is part of the 11th package of sanctions against Russia.
On June 23, the European Union banned the supply of cars with an engine capacity of over 1.9 liters to Russia. This applies to both new and used vehicles. Previously, only cars valued at over 50,000 euros had been under the ban.
According to the National Statistical Service of Georgia, from January to June 2023, Georgia exported more than 3,700 passenger vehicles to Russia, with a total value exceeding 52 million dollars.
