Former Wagner Mercenary Accused of Mass Murder Upon Return from War

A former mercenary of the Wagner private military company, 37-year-old Igor Sofonov, who recently returned from the Ukrainian war, has been arrested on charges of murdering six people. He denies the accusations.

According to Sever.Realii, on August 1, the bodies of six local residents were discovered in the village of Derevyanoe in the Prionezhsky District of Karelia, with stab wounds.

The murders occurred in two separate houses located two hundred meters apart. In the first house, a father and son were killed, while in the second house, three men and one woman lost their lives. There were also attempts to set both houses on fire to conceal the traces of the crime.
