France and Italy to Evacuate Their Citizens from Niger
France will begin the evacuation of its citizens from Niger, which has recently experienced a coup. This was reported by Al Jazeera, citing a statement from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“We are preparing to evacuate our citizens who are unable to leave Niger on their own and wish to depart,” the ministry's statement noted.
The evacuation is set to begin today and will include not only French nationals but also citizens from other European countries.
According to a statement from the ministry, fewer than 1,200 French citizens were registered in Niger as of 2022.
The Italian Foreign Minister also announced today that the government will organize a special flight to repatriate its citizens from Niger. “The Italian government has decided to offer our compatriots in Niamey the option to leave the city for Italy via a special flight,” wrote Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on his Twitter account.
