Armenia's Young Wrestlers Clinch First Medals in Turkey
Armenia's young wrestlers have won their first medals at the World U17 Championships taking place in Istanbul. In the Greco-Roman wrestling competition, Edgar Petrosyan, competing in the 48 kg category, convincingly defeated German wrestler Ivan Seibel with a score of 8:0 in the match for third place.
In the 80 kg category, Erik Ter-Matevosyan first won his consolation match 8:4 against Azerbaijani Elmyn Aliyev, and then went on to defeat Greek Eleftherios Papas in the small final with a score of 8:2. Our athletes secured bronze medals.
Today, the remaining Armenian wrestlers began their fights. In the 45 kg weight category, Yuriy Mkhitaryan lost only in the semifinals and will compete for the bronze medal tomorrow. In the 51 kg category, Arthur Broyan, having won against all his opponents, reached the finals, where he will compete under a neutral flag against Ilya Kandalini.
In the 71 kg category, Gor Khachatryan will participate in the consolation tournament, and after winning there, he will again contest for third place. It is noteworthy that after the second day of competition, the Armenian team is currently in sixth place in the overall standings, with the Indian team holding the top position.
