Conductor Sergey Smbatyan's Father Also Arrested
Armen Smbatyan, the former ambassador of Armenia to Israel, has been detained for two months. This information has been confirmed by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Armenia. Previously, we reported that a two-month detention was also set for his son, conductor Sergey Smbatyan.
Earlier, we had reported that on July 29, conductor Sergey Smbatyan and his father, the former extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Armenia to Israel, Armen Smbatyan, were arrested on suspicion of causing property damage to the state amounting to 966 million drams.
It is noted that Armen Smbatyan has been charged under paragraph 1 of part 3 of Article 178 of the RA Criminal Code, adopted in 2003 (organizing fraudulent activities on a particularly large scale), while Sergey Smbatyan and businessman A.P. have been charged under paragraph 1 of part 3 of Article 178 (fraud on a particularly large scale).
