Weightlifter Garnik Cholakyan Wins at European U23 Championship
At the European under-23 weightlifting championship held in Bucharest, Armenia's Garnik Cholakyan secured the gold medal in the 61 kg weight category, achieving a total of 255 kg (140+255). He also won small gold medals in the snatch and clean and jerk events.
In the under-20 competition, Meruzhan Yeghoyan (61 kg) became a bronze medalist with a total lift of 254 kg (110+144). He earned a small silver medal in the clean and jerk event.
Seyran Khudanyan won a bronze medal in the under-20 competition in the 55 kg category with a total lift of 216 kg (95+121), also securing third place in the clean and jerk.
It is worth noting that the under-20 national team will feature Tigran Karapetyan (67 kg), Gor Sahakyan, Martin Poghosyan (both 73 kg), Mnatsakan Abrahamyan (81 kg), Suren Grigoryan (89 kg), Felix Gevorgyan (96 kg), Garik Karapetyan (102 kg), with substitutes Ashot Movsisyan and Vazgen Grigoryan (+109 kg).
The women's team includes Aleksandra Grigoryan (59 kg), Anush Arshakyana (64 kg), Alina Sukiasyan (71 kg), Anna Amroyan (76 kg), Emma Poghosyan (81 kg), Margarita Arakelyan (87 kg), and Julieta Avanesyan (+87 kg).
The U23 national team will feature Rafik Harutyunyan, Karen Margaryan (both 81 kg), Gevorg Qahramanyan (89 kg, reserve), Ara Aghanyan (96 kg), Petros Petrosyan, Yasha Minasyan (both 109 kg), Liana Gyurgyan (87 kg), Luiza Sahradyan, and Meri Tumasyan (both +87 kg).
The European Youth Championship is being held from July 23 to August 3.
