Rwandan Troops Invade Congolese Border: Reuters
Rwandan troops have crossed the border into the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and entered its territory. This was reported by Reuters, citing a statement from the command of the DRC's armed forces.
Rwandan units attacked positions of Congolese security forces, who responded, forcing the Rwandan troops to retreat. The number of soldiers involved remains unknown, and there are no reports of possible casualties during the clashes.
The conflict between the two neighboring countries escalated back in January 2021 when members of the "March 23 Movement" began offensive operations in eastern DRC. Congolese authorities accuse Rwanda of complicity with these rebels.
UN experts have reported having evidence that Rwandan troops have fought alongside M23 in eastern Congo and supplied the rebels with weapons and necessary equipment.
