Mother Charged for Abandoning Newborn in a Plastic Bag in Martuni

It has already been reported that the biological mother of a newborn baby, found near one of the houses in the Inner Getashen community of Martuni, Gegharkunik Province, and later pronounced dead at Yerevan’s Muratsan Medical Center, has been identified. This was announced by the spokesperson of the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia, Gor Abrahamyan.

“In connection with this case, the Martuni Investigation Division of the Gegharkunik Regional Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia has initiated public criminal prosecution against the mentioned woman, and today she was charged under part 2 of Article 247 of the RA Criminal Code (Failure to ensure the safety of a child's life or health, which resulted in the child's death or caused serious injury or other severe consequences). The preventive measure chosen against her is a ban on leaving the country,” he stated.

I consider it necessary to inform that due to the interests of the preliminary investigation, as well as the principle of the inviolability of personal and family life, information regarding the individual's identity and circumstances of the incident will not be provided.
