Military Block President's Office in Niger
A group of military personnel from the presidential guard has blocked the building housing the office of Niger's President Mohamed Bazoum in the capital, Niamey. This was reported by Africanews.
It remains unclear why they have blocked the president's office. The residential area has also been secured.
Africanews cites Agence France-Presse, reporting that there is no military equipment in the region of the capital where the presidential residence is located. The agency noted that no gunfire has been heard in the city.
Meanwhile, another source close to the president has assured that Bazoum is "safe and sound" and is currently "negotiating" with the military.
