Diliijan and Pushkin Tunnels to Be Closed for Repair, Alternate Route to Be Activated: Sanosyan

In Armenia, it is planned to renovate the Diliijan and Pushkin tunnels in 2024, as they have not been repaired since their construction and there are significant and complex issues present. This was announced by the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Gnel Sanosyan, during a discussion on the preliminary budget programs and their key performance indicators presented in the draft law on the state budget of the Republic of Armenia for 2024, organized by the permanent committee on economic issues of the National Assembly.

Sanosyan stated that the Diliijan and Pushkin tunnels will be closed due to major construction issues, and an alternate route will be activated. “An important program that we will implement next year, which we have allocated in the budget, is the reconstruction of our two major tunnels—the Diliijan and Pushkin tunnels. We have conducted a tender this year, there is a company, and it is already carrying out design work. These tunnels have never been renovated since their construction; rather, there have been periodic repair works. Now we have commissioned a project through an international competition to renovate both tunnels,” said Sanosyan.

The minister noted that while drivers primarily complain about lighting and furnishings when passing through, there are much more serious and complex problems from a professional standpoint in those tunnels. The state now intends to address these issues and renovate both tunnels in 2024.
