There is a Defense Army to Ensure the Security of Artsakh, Says Pashinyan

The issue of the Republic of Armenia is to protect the territorial security of the Republic of Armenia, and we will remain within this logic. There is a Defense Army to ensure the security of Artsakh. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this during a press conference in response to a question about whether the Armenian Armed Forces are prepared to protect the security of our compatriots in Artsakh in the event of a possible war.

“Having a Defense Army in Artsakh is not an end in itself, given that Azerbaijan continuously carries out aggressive and threatening policies towards Artsakh. We say that the security of Artsakh must be ensured in a way that will primarily be credible to the population of Artsakh,” he said.

When asked if we can assume that the Armenian Armed Forces will not intervene in the event of a possible attack on Artsakh, Pashinyan responded: “The role of the Armenian Armed Forces is to ensure the borders and security of Armenia.” The journalist emphasized that this constitution existed even before the 44-day war, but our armed forces participated in military operations in Artsakh.

“We do not want a new war; we must do everything to prevent a new war and everything to restore Armenia's territorial integrity through a peaceful process within the framework of delimitation and demarcation,” Pashinyan noted.
