Mirzoyan Emphasizes Commitment to Adopt the 1975 Map During Meeting with Lavrov
On July 25, in Moscow, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. According to the Armenian Foreign Ministry, the discussions centered on regional security and stability, the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as the existing humanitarian issues.
Ararat Mirzoyan highlighted the deepening humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh due to Azerbaijan's illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor, emphasizing the urgent need to lift this blockade in accordance with the provisions of the trilateral statement dated November 9, 2020, and the rulings of the International Court of Justice. The necessity for concrete steps by the signatory parties of the trilateral statement and the opportunity to utilize existing international mechanisms in this direction were also stressed.
During the meeting, the process of normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan was addressed. In the context of border delimitation and ensuring border security between the two countries, Minister Mirzoyan reiterated the commitment to use the 1975 map as a basis to ensure maximum clarity in the ongoing delimitation process.
In the context of unblocking all economic and transportation routes in the region, the absence of alternatives for these routes to operate under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the respective countries was once again emphasized. Ararat Mirzoyan underlined the importance of addressing the rights and security issues of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh under an international mechanism.
To reach agreement on the aforementioned issues, Minister Mirzoyan stressed the necessity for Azerbaijan to show a constructive approach. The meeting also touched upon the agenda of Armenian-Russian bilateral cooperation.
