American Trevor Reid Wounded in Ukraine; State Department Issues Warning
The U.S. State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel warned Americans on Tuesday against traveling to Ukraine, recalling the injury of American Trevor Reid there.
“We are aware that Trevor Reid was wounded while fighting in Ukraine,” Patel stated during a press briefing. He added that the U.S. is aware of NGOs’ assistance that has allowed for Reid's transfer to Germany, where he is receiving medical care.
At the same time, Patel said that from the very beginning of the Ukrainian conflict, the United States has warned American citizens traveling there to participate in military operations that they are “at serious risk, including the risk of capture, death, or injury.”
Moreover, according to Patel, the U.S. will not be able to assist in evacuating these individuals. “We are unable to provide assistance on the evacuation of U.S. citizens from Ukraine, including those who may decide to go to Ukraine to participate in military operations,” he emphasized.
In April 2022, it was reported that American student Trevor Reid, who was sentenced in Russia for fighting with a police officer during his arrest, was swapped for Russian pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko, who had been convicted in the U.S. for preparing to transport cocaine.
