The International Community Must Take Action to End the Blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh, Says Pashinyan
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has published an article in the French newspaper "Le Monde" titled "Armenia: The International Community Must Take Action to End the Blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh."
Pashinyan expressed that the rights and security of the people living under Azerbaijan's blockade should be a priority for establishing sustainable peace in the region.
“On July 15, I met with President of the European Council Charles Michel and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. This meeting with the President of Azerbaijan was the last in a series that took place over the past four months in various formats and different capitals. Armenia's actions have proven the genuine will of the Armenian government and people to establish sustainable peace in the region. We are truly convinced that sustainable peace in the South Caucasus can have a significantly positive impact on an international level. In recent years, Armenia has become a stable democratic country in a rather complex region. Geographically, we are a strategic crossroads. If we manage to develop the peace process, normalize relations with neighboring states, and create strong transport and energy infrastructures, then local prosperity will undoubtedly increase, ties between Asia and Europe will be strengthened, and global trade and international stability will significantly develop.
Detrimental Situation: Although the outlines of a peace agreement are emerging, there are still significant obstacles to its implementation. These obstacles, which have persisted for a decade, can only be overcome with the support of partners who genuinely believe in the peace process in the South Caucasus. Currently, the main obstacle to peace is Azerbaijan's aggressive and illegal actions against Nagorno-Karabakh, particularly in the Lachin corridor and along the borders of Armenia. The Lachin corridor is the only route connecting the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh to the outside world. Since December 2022, access to this corridor has been severely restricted by Azerbaijan, citing environmental concerns. Today, Baku has escalated the situation by installing a border checkpoint near the entrance to the corridor, even preventing access for the International Committee of the Red Cross. The supply of food, medicine, and essential goods has been severely disrupted.
Restoring Life to the Residents of Nagorno-Karabakh.
