Putin's Decision: Sex-Reassignment Surgeries Will Not Be Performed in Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law prohibiting sex-reassignment surgeries in the country. This document has been published on the official legal information portal.

Amendments are being made to the law on the fundamentals of citizens' health protection. There is now a new article that bans medical surgeries and medications for sex-reassignment.

There is one exception: surgeries related to congenital anomalies and defects in children, as well as the treatment of genetic and endocrine diseases. Decisions regarding such cases will be made by medical commissions.
