U.S. Knew in Advance About Prigozhin's Rebellion, CIA Chief's Statements on Russia
The Director of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), William Burns, stated nearly a month after the armed rebellion led by Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner private military company, that the U.S. was aware of the impending events. This was reported by РИА Новости.
“President Joe Biden succinctly stated that we knew in advance. I will not delve into any further details,” Burns said at the Aspen Security Forum.
As noted by the BBC, Burns also mentioned that Russian President Vladimir Putin is buying time, trying to figure out how to deal with Prigozhin. It has also been reported that, according to the CIA chief, this rebellion exposed the weaknesses of the power structure created by Putin.
