Unexploded Ordnance Covers Nearly One Third of Ukrainian Territory
Unexploded ordnance is spread across nearly one third of Ukrainian territory. This was stated by Rosemary DiCarlo, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, at a meeting of the UN Security Council, as reported by RIA Novosti.
"Landmines will continue to pose a threat to civilians for years to come, as nearly one third of the country's territory, according to reports, is occupied by unexploded mines, shells, and cluster munitions," she said.
Following her remarks, Ecuador’s Foreign Minister Gustavo Manrique called on the conflicting parties to refrain from using cluster munitions.
It should be noted that on July 7, U.S. President Joe Biden announced his decision to supply cluster munitions to the Kyiv regime, and a week later, the Pentagon reported that Ukraine had already received them not only from the U.S. but also from other countries. Moscow has emphasized that such deliveries endanger civilians and are aimed at prolonging the crisis.
