Our Physical Existence Is Threatened: The Message from the Speaker of the Artsakh National Assembly to Leaders of UN Member States
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh, Artur Tovmasyan, addressed the leaders of the permanent member countries of the United Nations:
“The main fault of the people living in the Republic of Artsakh is that we are innocent. Azerbaijan is a multi-ethnic country, and for millennia we have lived side by side. Today, we are ready to live with our neighbors on the principle of ‘equal to equal.’ In that case, we will replace the tank with a tractor, and the machine gun with a shovel. One of the presidents of the Republic of Artsakh once said: ‘The prison is for humans.’ From December 12, 2022, until June 15, 2023, we were in that prison, and from June 15, 2023, until now, we have been in a concentration camp. This is not for humans.
In world history, we have the example of fascist Germany, whose crimes against humanity have been condemned by the rational world. Today, the people of Artsakh are facing a humanitarian disaster and an existential crisis. Our physical existence is threatened; every day of our lives could be our last.
This type of Armenian is a peace-loving, hardworking people who have always built their lives through diligent labor and friendly relations with neighbors. Only political solutions can bring peace to the region. Immediate actions must be taken. We believe in you.”
