Igor Strelkov-Girkin Arrested in Moscow
Law enforcement officials in Moscow have arrested Igor Strelkov-Girkin today. This information is reported by RBC, citing two sources from the law enforcement agencies.
The report has also been confirmed by Strelkov's wife. Police took Strelkov from his home around noon, and investigators are currently conducting a search of his apartment. Preliminary reports indicate that the arrest was made at the request of a former member of the Wagner group.
Strelkov's whereabouts are currently unknown, and he faces charges of extremism.
It is worth noting that Girkin-Strelkov is a former employee of the Russian Federal Security Service and is an active political figure in Donetsk. The Hague court has deemed him one of those responsible for the 2014 downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, resulting in the deaths of 298 people on board, for which he has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the Netherlands in absentia.
