At 2 AM I Reached the Hospital Bleeding, Gabriel Died: The Unborn Victim of the Atrocious Blockade

Recalling that tragic night, Ani can hardly express her words as tears choke her throat. "I couldn’t get through to the ambulance, it was 2 AM, I barely made it to the hospital, six months pregnant.... We couldn’t save my baby," she told MediaHub.

The death of the unborn child was recorded in the village of Haterk in the Martakert region of Artsakh due to a humanitarian disaster caused by the Azerbaijani blockade.

23-year-old Ani, who lost her angel Gabriel that night, addresses the entire world through the media: "Do not remain silent, do everything to ensure that unborn children do not die in their mothers' hearts, do not remain silent."

Ani explained that her child's condition began to deteriorate when she was unable to go for check-ups due to the lack of transport. "There was no transportation; at 2 AM I barely reached the hospital, but I was already bleeding. We called for an ambulance, and we managed to get through, but it was probably already too late. It took us 2 hours to get from Haterk to Stepanakert, it was already too late," she recounts.

Ani, who had struggled for two years to conceive, chose Gabriel’s name for a reason. "For two years, I couldn’t get pregnant. I saw God in my dreams, He told me not to think that He wouldn’t give me children, but that all their names should start with the letter 'G'. We named our first son Gor, and when we found out the second was a boy, we decided he would also be Gabriel," Ani says, whispering that the decision became a dream that will never be realized.

Her other son, Gor, is 2.5 years old and attends kindergarten. Ani explains that they can no longer buy basic necessities for the little one from any shop—there are none available. "We are living on what we have at home. We have cultivated a plot of land and are managing to secure food. You can't find anything in the stores," she said.

Approximately 120,000 residents of Artsakh have been under an Azerbaijani blockade for 222 days, with over 35 days under complete siege, facing threats of hunger and diseases. Vardan Grigoryan, the mayor of Haterk, told the media that the situation in the village is critical. "The people's condition is terrible; the issues of medicine, fuel, and food are unresolved. Due to the lack of medication, patients are in extreme conditions. About a week ago, they managed to save the life of a woman in childbirth, unfortunately, the child died," he mentioned, referring to Ani.

The village mayor stated that due to the humanitarian disaster in Artsakh, cases of heart attacks have tripled. "About a week ago, a 45-year-old man died, a father of multiple children," he said.
