Video: Forest Fires in Greece Caused by Extreme Heat
Greece continues to battle forest fires that have erupted due to extreme heat recorded recently across Europe and other parts of the world. This information is reported by Al Jazeera.
The fires are ongoing in three areas, near the towns of Loutraki and Dervenochoria, where they began on Monday, as well as on Rhodes. To extinguish the fires, 12 specialized aircraft and 14 firefighting helicopters are currently in operation.
Local residents have also joined the firefighters, assisting them in their efforts. “We continue to supply them with water. If it weren’t for that, we would have lost the village this morning,” said one local citizen.
“Ashes from the fire have fallen on the village. Some have even landed from a distance of 1 kilometer,” said another local resident, adding that whenever they see flames, they try to extinguish them immediately.
