"Honorary Member" Faction to Appeal to the Constitutional Court: "Hraparak"

According to the newspaper "Hraparak", the "Honorary Member" faction is preparing to appeal to the Constitutional Court regarding the case of MP Taguhi Tovmasyan, challenging the process of her removal from the position of head of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Human Rights and Public Affairs. The opposition believes that the actions of the ruling Civil Contract party are illegal.

The appeal to the Constitutional Court will include several justifications. The first is that lawmakers did not have the right to remove Tovmasyan from her position while she was on temporary incapacity leave, which was related to health issues of her children. The second argument is that attendance at the National Assembly Council meeting is not an imperative requirement, and the MP is not obliged to participate. Additionally, Tovmasyan has been working with the council in writing and has submitted requests for legislative initiatives if needed.

The third basis is that the MP, as the head of the committee, cannot restrict anyone's right to freedom of speech, neither for Edgar Ghazaryan nor for Arthur Hovhannisyan from the Civil Contract party, who made threats throughout the meeting.

Our sources did not specify when the appeal will be presented, but legal experts are working on it. Afterward, they will address the "Armenia" alliance, as 26 signatures from MPs are needed to file an appeal to the Constitutional Court. The application will also present some episodes of Tovmasyan's activities to reason the efforts made to obstruct her official contacts with international organizations. Tovmasyan has, in her official capacity, sent about 900 letters to various organizations and ambassadors regarding issues in Artsakh and nearly 500 letters about the anti-democratic steps taken by the authorities.
