Deaths of Children Due to Hunger Reported in Artsakh: Marukyan's Statement

Azerbaijan proves every day that it is incapable of ensuring even the principles formed before the eyes of the international community. This was stated by the Armenian Ambassador at Large Edmon Marukyan on his Twitter microblog, noting that, for example, Azerbaijan claimed that it wants to integrate the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh and that the people living there are its citizens.

“The international community has demanded that Azerbaijan take measures to build trust and start direct negotiations with the Armenian representatives of Nagorno-Karabakh, implementing international mechanisms that guarantee the rights and security of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh. In response, before integrating Christian Armenians, Azerbaijan is killing them by organizing various diversionary operations and then destroying Christian churches and monuments of Christian heritage. Therefore, Azerbaijan has no program for integrating Christian Armenians.

Moreover, it has halted gas supplies and electricity for about 7 months, is keeping the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh under blockade, and cases of children dying of hunger have already been reported. Naturally, through these actions, Azerbaijan is committing an international crime, making it clear to everyone that it is not undertaking any measures to build trust. On the contrary, this shows that the policy being implemented is aimed not at integrating the Armenian people but at subjecting Nagorno-Karabakh to ethnic cleansing, ultimately obtaining a piece of land without a population,” Marukyan wrote.

According to him, under pressure from blatant evidence, liberal democratic institutions of the international community must either accept that they are complicit in the starvation, killings, and ethnic cleansing of the 120,000 Armenians and 30,000 children of Nagorno-Karabakh, or take concrete steps in the form of international intervention to stop these crimes against humanity.

Otherwise, according to Marukyan's statement, the 21st century will be marked by yet another mass violation of human rights, specifically an international crime that can still be prevented by the international community.
